The military threat, hostility and economic aggression of U.S. imperialism against Venezuela; the neoliberal onslaught to reverse the social gains; the interference against the sovereignty of progressive governments; the attempts to dismantle the progress in the integration of Latin America and the Caribbean, destabilize the region and pose risks to regional peace and security.

Bolívar and Martí, Fidel and Chávez bequeathed us invaluable teachings, among them loyalty to principles. Their lessons show us the course to follow in this decisive hour of the Great Homeland, which calls for our unity to forge together our second and definitive independence.

Those of us who had the privilege of fighting against tyranny under the leadership of Fidel, from Moncada, Granma, the Rebel Army, and clandestine struggle, through today, feel, just like the heroic people of Cuba, a deep satisfaction in the consolidated work of the Revolution, our most beautiful work which imbues us with a genuine sense of happiness and calm confidence as we witness with our own eyes the transfer of the mission to continue building socialism, and in so doing guarantee independence and national sovereignty, to the new generations.

None of us who had the privilege of participating in these actions, under the command of Fidel, could have dreamed then that we would be alive today, in a free, independent, sovereign country, with a socialist Revolution in power and a united people, ready to defend the work undertaken, the fruit of the sacrifice and bloodshed of various generations of Cubans.

These events demonstrate once again that the path is never to neglect the unity of revolutionaries and to always maintain the struggle, keeping in mind that our adversaries never give up in the effort to restore models of exclusion and exploitation, and that when the supposed values and rules of the sacrosanct representative democracy do not serve them to reach power, they do not hesitate to resort to coup d’états, violence, or even war.

After 60 years of struggle, sacrifices, efforts and victories, we see a free, independent country, the master of its own destiny. On imagining tomorrow, the work done allows us to glimpse a dignified and prosperous future for the Homeland.
