Cuba thanked the African Union (AU) condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, embodied in a resolution of the XXXII Summit of the organization.

The support of the peoples and governments of Africa for the end of the blockade reaffirms the bonds of brotherhood and solidarity that unite us,’ wrote Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on Twitter. The day before, the summit of Heads of State and Government of the AU concluded in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, at which, in addition to rejecting the U.S. blockade, they reaffirmed their solidarity with the Caribbean island. They also regretted the setback in relations between Cuba and the United States, a scenario derived from the hostility of the administration headed by President Donald Trump, who took office in January 2017.

African countries stand out among those in the United Nations that year after year support a resolution that demands lifting the siege, an initiative similar to the one approved by the General Assembly in an uninterrupted way since 1992. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
