Dear Cuban workers:

Faced with the growing threats from the U.S. government, reinforced by the executive order of January 29 that added an energy blockade to the already tightened economic, commercial, and financial siege imposed on us for more than 65 years simply for wanting to build a dignified, sovereign, and independent nation, nothing is more important and decisive today than working united and rising as a country.

In this context, the Workers’ Central Union of Cuba (CTC), its national unions, and the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers (Anir) call for the celebration of May Day, International Workers’ Day, under a cardinal and mobilizing idea: The Homeland is defended.

Celebrating May Day is to demonstrate the unity of Cubans and their patriotism; it is to once again “break the corojo” as Maceo did in Baraguá when he refused a peace without independence; it is to evoke José Martí’s ideas in his speech Los Pinos Nuevos, a transcendental declaration of unity among several generations of Cubans around the independence project; it is to defend, in the Year of the Centennial of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, his concept expressed on May Day 2000.

We urge you to celebrate it in parades and events, in every workplace, sugar mill, town, municipality, and province, with the rationality we have had to adopt in the face of restrictions imposed by the tightened blockade.

It is a call to defend the country from the furrow, the factories, the classrooms, the scientific centers, power plants, hospitals, culture, sports; from every trench of combat.

We invite Cuba’s friends around the world to join us, as every year, in celebrating International Workers’ Day. We thank them in advance for their solidarity and for having the courage to share our fate in the midst of a real military threat, which instead of intimidating us, makes us repeat with optimism and confidence in victory the glorious verse of our National Anthem: To die for the Homeland is to live.

“Together we create for Cuba” is the conviction that will accompany us on this date, driving the priorities defined by the Party; for those of us preparing for the defense of the Socialist Homeland; working to change the energy matrix; contributing to food production; seeking solutions to problems every day; it is the conviction of doctors and teachers who do not give up and continue defending life; of those who are part of the Revolution, not out of dogma or fanaticism, but out of conviction, ideas, and deeds.

Workers, Cuban people:

With the vibrant colors of our flag, with joy, patriotism, and inspired by the teachings of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, just months before the final sessions of our 22nd Congress, the CTC, its national unions, and Anir call for a May Day that shakes us as a nation through unity and the commitment to be useful, to contribute, and to defend the project Martí dreamed of, Fidel fulfilled, and which under the leadership of the Party, headed by First Secretary Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez together with the workers, we will not allow to be taken away.

Long live the Cuban Revolution!
Homeland or Death! We shall overcome!
See you on May Day
