The Secretariat of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) recently issued an urgent appeal to all members and friends of the international organization to intensify their actions of solidarity and support for the Cuban people in the current situation the island is facing.

To better coordinate solidarity efforts and make them as effective as possible, the WFTU decided to declare an International Week of Action from April 6 to 12 in solidarity and support of the Cuban people. It also launched an international campaign to collect money and other useful materials, such as medicines and medical supplies, destined for Cuba.
The WFTU emphasized that Cuba resists and does not surrender, “but now more than ever it needs the solidarity and support of all progressives, above all, of the international trade union movement.”
The international body indicated that the money and other materials collected by member organizations will be channeled through the Central Organization of Cuban Workers, with the purpose of directing them to companies and places affected by the lack of electricity due to the severe fuel shortage in the country.
“The solidarity under the current circumstances cannot be limited only to declarations and demonstrations of support and condemnation of U.S. imperialist aggression. Cuba also needs the immediate practical and material support of the international progressive movement to resist and overcome the difficulties created by the imperialist blockade,” the appeal concludes.
