The Workers’ Central Union of Cuba (
) received the visit of a Spanish delegation from the Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras (CCOO, in Spanish), a meeting that promoted exchanges between the organizations and strengthened the bonds of solidarity between Cuba and Spain.
The organization’s Jesús Menéndez Theater brought together 40 trade unionists from Catalonia and Madrid, who discussed their main questions about the Cuban labor movement and the areas of work that are driving the strengthening of the sector today.
The meeting was attended by Gertrudis Simón Pineda, head of the International Relations Department; Milexsy Guizado Faez, officer in charge of the European geopolitical area; and Yuneiby Medina Rodríguez, member of the secretariat of the National Union of Cultural Workers (SNTC, in Spanish).
Daniel Gismero, Secretary of Culture and Cultural Studies of the CCOO of Madrid and Patron of the Ateneo Primero de Mayo Union Foundation, said that this visit is the ideal scenario to bring the Cuban reality closer to the cadres and leaders of the Spanish Cultural Union, and in turn, expand bilateral relations between the nations.
“We have always been related to each other, friendship and love are our flags.”

During the visit, they delivered a donation of medical supplies to the Oncology and Radiobiology Hospital of Havana to improve services and patient care. In addition, they will exchange experiences with political and mass organizations such as the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC, in Spanish), the National Defense Committees (CDR, in Spanish) and others, as well as social projects in other regions of the country.
The relationship of love and cooperation between the Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras and the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba has been based on friendship for years, since it was created in the midst of the independence struggles for the liberation and rights of workers. Today, it continues to forge new links to continue building the road in defense of workers’ rights.

Gertrudis Simón expressed her gratitude to all the Spanish trade unionists and said that «it is always pleasant to receive our compatriots in the home of the Cuban workers». She also conveyed the greetings of the Second General Secretary and affirmed that «you are part of the history of the world proletariat, your presence today is a sign of solidarity».
Milexsy Guizado Faez reaffirmed the importance of this link and invited them to a future meeting. Today,» she stressed, «we are facing new challenges that lead us to articulate with each of the sectors».
