President Díaz-Canel opens Fihav 2018

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel attended today’s inauguration of the 36th Havana International Fair (Fihav 2018), the country’s premier event to promote foreign trade and investment, in which more than 60 countries are participating, and will continue through Friday, November 2.

On the agenda for event, are the Russia-Latin America-Caribbean business forum, in which commercial ties will be strengthened.

Also much awaited is the Third Investment Forum, during which experiences will be shared and the Mariel Special Development Zone featured.

To be presented is Cuba’s portfolio of investment opportunities, including a map of exporters and products available for export, as well as the official call for the 2019 Caribbean Trade Fair.
Plans for the 500th anniversary of the city of Havana next year are also featured, as well as national days focused on Spain, China, Russia, Venezuela, and Bolivia.

The Havana International Fair (Fihav) has been held annually since 1983 and is one of largest in Latin America.

Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, stressed on Monday the importance of strengthening foreign investment in the national economy.
We should strengthen the still incipient foreign investment in the Cuban economy, Malmierca said during the opening ceremony of the 36th edition of the Havana International Fair, FIHAV 2018, in which President Miguel Diaz-Canel attended.

Until November 2, a wide and varied international exhibition from the five continents are arranging to meet in the main Cuban trade fair and one of the major one in the region.

One of the main course of the event will be the 3rd Investment Forum, which will be held on October 30 and 31 at the theater and executive hall of Expocuba, the country’s largest exhibition site and traditional venue of FIHAV.

The business forum Russia, Latin America and the Caribbean, during which the parties will strengthen ties, and an event for the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Villa San Cristobal de La Habana, stress the program.

FIHAV has been continuously carrying out since 1983. As usual every year, the last edition had a broad participation of Cuban and foreign visitors, foreign official delegations, chambers of commerce and organizations promoting trade and investment from many parts of the world.

For five days, at the headquarters of this Fair, a favorable climate is created for the development of business meetings, business rounds, seminars, keynote speeches, among other activities.

In 2017, FIHAV had about 3,400 exhibitors from more than 70 countries, chose China as the best pavilion and recognized Spain as the most represented nation, occupying five of 25 pavilions in Expocuba.
