Cuba and Mexico ratify their solidarity in case of natural disasters

Agustín Rodríguez de la Gala, Minister Counselor of the Mexican Embassy in Cuba, affirmed the strong ties of collaboration and solidarity between the two countries after the tragedies caused by Hurricane Irma on the Island and the earthquakes Mexico.

Mexicans are grateful for the sending to the state of Oaxaca of a brigade made up of 40 professionals from the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Specialists in Disaster and Severe Epidemics, who serve with great love and dedication to the population, affected by the earthquakes September 7 and19, the diplomat said.

He added that his government, motivated by the spirit of brotherhood, was able sent on October 3 to Havana of a brigade made up of six specialists in the generation, distribution and transmission of electricity belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission of Mexico, to support in the recovery efforts of damages caused by Hurricane Irma.

For eight days our technicians performed an intense work, were also received in a very generous way and exchanged experiences with the companions of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and toured electrical substations of the capital and the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant, located on the outskirts of the city of Matanzas, said Rodríguez de la Gala.

He also referred to the possible renewal of the cooperation agreement that exists between the Electricity Union of Cuba and the Federal Electricity Commission of Mexico that dates from 2008.

This is due to the recent exchanges valued of very positive between Mexican and Cuban technicians during the recuperative phase of Irma, he commented.

On September 29, 2017, a Cuban medical brigade arrived in the municipality of Jutichán, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, made up of professionals of different specialties, as well as a field hospital and 10 tons of supplies, medicines and medical equipment to attend to those affected by earthquakes.
