With the aim of facilitating and promoting trade between Cuba and the United States, as well as generating new business opportunities and strengthening ties between the two nations, Port of Houston and Cuban authorities signed a memorandum of friendship and cooperation at the island’s Ministry of Transport, August 2.

The document was signed by Capitan José Joaquín Prado Falero, director general of Cuba’s Port Administration and Ricky W. Kunz, Chief Commercial Officer for Port Houston.

According to reports, the document is also designed to promote research and information exchanges geared toward improving port services, market studies and collaborative projects. Likewise, the memorandum will facilitate personnel training and technological exchanges between the two entities.

José Joaquín Prado Falero noted that the ratification of this accord “the eighth to be signed between a U.S. Port Authority and our country, is proof of the willingness of the U.S. port-maritime sector to strengthen commercial, friendship and cooperation ties with Cuba.”

To date, the Caribbean nation has signed memorandums of understanding with Port Authorities from Virginia, Louisiana, Lake Charles, New Orleans, Alabama, Gulfport Mississippi and Pascagoula. (Taken from en.granma.cu)
