Cuba received the support of more than fifty American personalities, after the announcement by Donald Trump of the recent change of policy towards the Caribbean island.

The message by the National Association of Cuba Writers and Artists (UNEAC by its Spanish a acronym) served as a starting point for personalities such as artist Setsuko Ono and the retired colonel of the US Army Ann Wright to express themselves in favor of the Caribbean nation.

James Winkler, president of the US National Council of Churches; peace activist Cindy Sheehan, lawyer Dan Kovalik; poets Jorge Palma and Hector Celano, from Uruguay and Argentina respectively, among others, joined the initiative.

The multi-award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone, director of the film ¨Comandante¨ – a long interview with Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro – gave Cuba full support against the policy change proclaimed by Trump.

Stone also signed the message sent by UNEAC to friends of Cuban culture in his nation, with the purpose of denouncing the policy change announced on June 16 in Miami.

Dominican singer Víctor Víctor, who performed last February in Havana, also joined the group of more than three thousand people who signed the document.

UNEAC described Trump’s speech as old-fashioned, obsolete, loaded with falsehoods and stereotypes, and with words aimed at an audience that does not represent the majority of Cuban emigration.

The list also includes Peruvian and Ecuadorian members of the Network in Defense of Humanity; Graciela Rosemblum, president of the Argentine League for the Rights of Man; and Luis Aguilera, Secretary General of the Chilean Writers Society. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
