Members of the Federation of Middle School Students have repudiated the recent speech made by U.S. President Donald Trump and described as a circus act his political stance toward the island.

The organization belonging to the Civil Society group resolutely condemned the measures included in the ‘National Security Presidential Memorandum on Strengthening the Policy of the United States Towards Cuba.’

The guidelines announced by the new administration hurt not only the American people but also ours, betting to reverse the rapprochement achieved between the two countries in erms of exchange and cooperation, a students’ statement reported today by Granma newspaper said.

We support the Declaration of the Revolutionary Government, demanding respect for the integrity of our nation and non-interference in its internal affairs, aware that the destiny of the homeland, built by generations of heroes, only depends on us, the text stated.

We repudiate the circus staged in Miami with the aim of intimidating and discrediting the Revolution, and with the purpose of satisfying the spurious interests of politicians, who made the anti-Cuban cause a way of life, the student body denounces.

We will never give in to their ridiculous and unjust policies, and their aggressive words do not intimidate us; on the contrary, they show once again the true intentions of those who persist in their intentions to defeat the revolutionary process, the communiqué emphasizes.

Cuba does have much to show in terms of defending the human rights of its citizens and the exercise of democracy, the students said.

The statement from the Federation of Middle School Students has as its backdrop the recent announcement made by Trump to reverse the process of normalization of relations between the northern country and Cuba.

Trump said on June 16th that the previous administration’s agreement on the Caribbean nation would be totally cancelled.

Such a decision is opposed to the judgment of a large majority of Americans who support the continuity of Washington’s approach to the island.

The U.S. president ratified the validity of the blockade and said a strategy would be announced to enforce the ban that prevents Americans from traveling. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
