Rob Miller, director of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign in the United Kingdom, was one of more than 700 foreign delegates who joined the Cuban people in celebrating International Workers’ Day. His voice, like so many others, rose to demonstrate what President Díaz-Canel would summarize hours later: “Cuba’s strength is multiplied thanks also to solidarity.”

His commitment pulsed firmly during the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, held last Saturday at the Havana Convention Palace, an event that brought together hundreds of people, all Cuban at heart. His testimony made clear that his support is not an occasional gesture, but part of a global movement of great strength.

When speaking with him, it is evident that he does not throw out numbers at random. His campaign Cuba Sí has raised more than half a million dollars, which enabled the shipment of 10 containers to the country: seven loaded with medicines and medical supplies, and the remaining three with food. “It is not charity,” he emphasized, “it is solidarity.” Behind this effort is the work of more than 5,000 direct members who, through 23 affiliations, mobilize 4 million trade unionists across the United Kingdom.

Like another son of this land, Miller—who in 2022 was awarded the Order of Solidarity—expressed that his visits have been numerous, but this one has special significance in the year of Fidel’s centenary. “Cuba lives,” he declared with a strong voice, “because of its beautiful people, its history, and its social program. It is a nation that exists and is important for the world.”

During his stay he delivered aid to polyclinics, hospitals, schools, and communities in the capital. “Every place you go,” he described, “you see people working with love for the patients and for the children. It is a unique experience because you can witness a country that resists obstacles, regardless of threats, and continues defending its Revolution.”

Referring to the new aggressive policies deployed just hours earlier by the U.S. government, after the signing of an executive order that tightens the blockade, he explained naturally: “In this land there is unity, humanity, courage, resistance, and strength. Here people are at the center of the project; and that, for me and for others, is a beacon. They may call Cuba the axis of evil, but against Cuba they will not prevail.”

With three decades dedicated to solidarity, and though gray hairs are already showing, he reaffirmed: “We will fight in our countries and here as well. We are with you today, tomorrow, and always.”
