Filling vacant positions, strengthening ties with workers, and being more efficient in their tasks are some of the objectives pursued this year by the secretariat of the Provincial Committee of the Central Workers’ Union of Cuba (CTC) in Camagüey, as revealed in the first work meeting held this Thursday.

The training and preparation of leaders, as well as completing the reserve of cadres, is one of the main tasks, according to Ana Iris Hidalgo Conde, a member of the secretariat, since without the necessary representatives “functions cannot be fulfilled nor can the interests of workers be safeguarded.”

As emphasized by Yamisleidys López Fernández, general secretary of the Provincial Committee, although “new students have already been recruited and some positions have been filled, it is necessary to continue interviewing workers and seeking reserves.”

Regarding the annual process of discussion and presentation of the plan and budget, Richard Ramírez Arias, another member of the secretariat, explained that this year the intention is to hold meetings grounded in reality, considering the resources available.

He added that most of the meetings will begin in February so as not to be affected, as in previous occasions, by delays in the breakdown of the plans.

As López Fernández pointed out, “it is necessary to achieve a plan that is as realistic as possible, so the process must have quality and not limit its analysis to these dates, but also evaluate its fulfillment throughout the year.”

The meeting also addressed issues such as crime and illegalities, workers’ guard duty, union dues, workforce potential, and activities planned for the centenary of the Commander in Chief.
