The Workers’ Central Union of Cuba (CTC, in Spanish) began in Havana the preparation of union leaders on the implementation of the 176 economic and social transformations underway in the country, continuing the training process carried out in several provinces.
The subject of study is also Law 189, Labor Code, promulgated in July this year by the National Assembly of People’s Power, which updates the Cuban labor legal framework in correspondence with the current Constitution of the Republic, the changes approved and the international commitments undertaken by Cuba in the field of labor rights, as specified by the member of the National Secretariat of the organization José Antonio Pérez Pérez.
The program of preparation of cadres and leaders on the role of the trade union movement in the implementation of the Economic and Social Transformations, is carried out throughout October and responds to an agreement of the leadership of the central workers.
«The CTC emphasizes that the conscious participation of workers is decisive in the success of the transcendental process and for this it is necessary that they know and understand its content and purposes, which impact on property relations, the labor market and the daily life of the people», said Pérez Pérez.
He also explained that a working team of the National CTC conducts seminars in nine provinces of the country, with the participation of more than 600 senior managers and leaders from the 15 existing trade unions and the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers (ANIR, in Spanish).
Next week will be held in Sancti Spíritus, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos and Pinar del Río, while in Havana, until the end of the month, it is every Wednesday and Friday with the attendance of trade unionists from ministries, business groups, national entities and strategic centers located in the capital.
With regard to the new Labor Code, in the preparation it is emphasized in its Article 475, which establishes that fundamental decisions in a labor collective are analyzed and approved by the General Assembly of Members and workers, as the highest organ of the trade union organization and a space for active participation by workers.
