The installation of photovoltaic systems is increasing in the province of Camagüey thanks to the incorporation of new economic actors and the farming sector into the process of changing the energy matrix.
The medium-sized company Irmantto, dedicated to the installation, repair, and maintenance of technological systems, as detailed by its partner Alexander Pastor Recio, has worked since its creation about four years ago together with the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment to protect the ozone layer from toxic gas emissions.
Later, Pastor Recio added, “we became involved in the energy revolution being carried out in the country and contributed with the installation of photovoltaic systems to help reduce fossil fuel consumption.”
The medium-sized company, which also provides consulting services, has already implemented these systems in private homes, polyclinics, banks, and even funeral homes — in the latter case thanks to a donation from one of its suppliers.
With the tightening of measures imposed by the United States government on the island, the fuel deficit has hindered economic development. In this context, the farming and cooperative sector in Camagüey has also joined in the installation of solar systems.
According to the website of Radio Cadena Agramonte, this initiative has received support from the government of the People’s Republic of China, with the goal of integrating renewable energy into the daily lives of farmers, improving their access to electricity.
Juan Carlos Lacaba Jofre, director of the Basic Business Unit for Renewable Energy Sources in Camagüey, explained that the project has several phases for installing solar energy systems, which currently extend to nearly 150 homes of producers without access to electricity service, known as “zero volt” houses.
This initiative, the specialist emphasized, aligns with the Cuban government’s objectives of pursuing more ecological and responsible development. Farmers can meet their basic needs while also receiving a boost for their productive processes.
