Maida and the Opportunity to Attend the CTC Congress Twice

Maida Isabel Díaz Ojeda has devoted herself wholeheartedly to working in the Provincial Health Department’s economic management. She began when she was just 16 years old, “very young and petite.”

Maida has now spent about 50 years in Health. There she built her family and grew professionally. She earned the respect of her colleagues to the point that she served for years as secretary of the union bureau and was even elected to represent them at the 18th Congress of the Workers’ Central Union of Cuba (CTC).

“That experience,” she says, “was wonderful. At that Congress we made significant progress. There was a lot of youth, and I had the opportunity to meet and exchange with many people.”

Years later, once again her colleagues placed their trust in her and selected her to represent them at the 22nd Congress of the CTC.

“From the first time I keep very fond memories. Now I return as a delegate, but with more experience. On this occasion the economic situation is complex, and we must talk precisely about what we can do to produce more. Our neighbors to the north don’t want to leave us in peace and try to interfere in our affairs, but we workers must unite more so that our country becomes more prosperous.”
