Holguín has taken another step toward changing its energy matrix with the inauguration of the province’s first charging station powered by photovoltaic solar energy — a “solinera.”

The facility, named El Girasol, was built by the small private company Frenas Conmigo, which holds the status of National Vanguard, and is located in the Alcides Pino neighborhood of the provincial capital.

The new center is equipped with 30 solar panels, providing an installed capacity of 40 kilowatts (KW), and also has batteries capable of storing 32 KW.

Its social purpose is to offer charging services for light vehicles, electronic devices, and household appliances. For electric scooters and tricycles, the established prices are 200 and 250 pesos per hour, respectively.

To benefit the population, the solinera offers free charging for cell phones, lamps, and fans between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The site also has connections for electric pressure cookers and portable charging stations, services that carry a cost based on energy consumption, starting from a minimum of one kilowatt, as explained to the press by Álvaro Grass, sole partner of Frenas Conmigo.

In the near future, the station plans to double the number of photovoltaic cells and increase the charging capacity for electric scooters and tricycles.
