An exhaustive analysis of leadership policy and the vital task of unionization was the focus of debate this Friday at the Extraordinary Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee of the Workers’ Central Union of Cuba (Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC)The CTC (Workers' Central Union of Cuba) was founded on January 28, 1939 by Lázaro Peña under the name Confederación de Trabajadores de Cuba (Confederation of Cuban Workers)) in Holguín.
With the presence of Santiago Badía González and José Antonio Pérez Pérez, members of the Organizing Commission of the 22nd Congress of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC)The CTC (Workers' Central Union of Cuba) was founded on January 28, 1939 by Lázaro Peña under the name Confederación de Trabajadores de Cuba (Confederation of Cuban Workers), union leaders from the eastern province critically examined the current state of both strategic fronts, which demand differentiated attention.
Idalmis Serrano Gómez, general secretary of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC)The CTC (Workers' Central Union of Cuba) was founded on January 28, 1939 by Lázaro Peña under the name Confederación de Trabajadores de Cuba (Confederation of Cuban Workers) in the territory, emphasized the shortcomings that persist, especially at the municipal and grassroots levels. “Where there are no leaders, how can union problems be addressed? We are obliged to transform the situation. The actions have not been sufficient,” she reflected, stressing the need to be more proactive and effective.
The debates revealed problems in the control of leadership reserves and weaknesses in the management of this process, which limit the union movement’s ability to respond within primary structures.
In this regard, Santiago Badía González highlighted the importance of having precise tools for decision-making. He said the database must be updated so that decisions regarding leadership policy can be based on it. “We must work with intentionality. Debate man to man,” he argued.
He also insisted on the need to address this issue in every management body in order to reverse it, through a personalized and concrete approach.
The Plenary also devoted space to examining other matters of crucial importance: unionization and the collection of finances, areas where vulnerabilities were identified.
