So devoted is Misael Rodríguez Llanes to his daily work that he expresses the sentiment with ease: “To build is to love.”
The secretary general of the National Union of Construction Workers, moved by recent events, confessed: “The always beautiful city of Ciego de Ávila draws our attention as much as the feats of its workers in our sector, who made possible the successful celebration of the central activities for December 5, Builder’s Day.”
“The commitment we made here last year during the provincial ceremony for the anniversary was fulfilled, and our pledged word was turned into concrete achievements over the past twelve months.
The province of Ciego de Ávila, for example, processed the highest number of proposals for distinctions. And one might ask, so many decorations awarded? Even so, it is still insufficient compared to the feats of our people in each workplace — especially here, with four entities and one basic business unit recognized as National Vanguard.”
Rodríguez Llanes emphasized: “I say this categorically because the construction materials industry and that of Holguín are among the most outstanding, having diversified production and fulfilled the prerogatives of Cuban enterprises to benefit workers and extend their management for the well-being of communities.”
He added: “The staff of the Ciego de Ávila construction and assembly company should feel proud of being the fastest in the country to complete, with quality, the execution schedule of a photovoltaic solar park. They also contributed to paving the runway of the Jardines del Rey International Airport, in preparation for the current peak tourist season and other investments.”
“Ciego has the best hydraulic utilization company in Cuba, and among the leading enterprises is also Ciegoplast, producer of high-density pipes and fittings.”
What are the challenges?
“To continue actions to improve water service for the province’s population, where 136 million pesos have been invested this year in pumping stations serving more than 48,000 residents. Also, to perfect the housing system in construction, improve the quality of works, and advance the digitalization of procedures so that this last task becomes a strength.”
What does the union propose on the eve of the 67th anniversary of the Revolution?
“First, to keep working everywhere so that the assembly of affiliates remains the main space for confronting the complex challenges of economic and social transformations. The union cannot speak from the sidelines; it must convince, represent, and organize the protagonists of the most important stage — the workplace collective.”
