The visit of José Antonio Pérez Pérez to Villa Clara, as a member of the organizing committee for the 22nd Congress of the Cuban Workers’ Central (CTC), reaffirmed the urgency of strengthening grassroots union leadership, fostering closer ties between leaders and labor collectives, and consolidating strategic tasks amid a challenging national context.
During his tour of the province, the official emphasized that reinforcing union operations and leadership from the grassroots level is a strategic priority, especially during the current Congress preparation process.
He highlighted the need to increase the completion rates of leadership positions by selecting reserves and training leaders, as a way to ensure better performance of management bodies and to enhance the political, ideological, and economic work of the labor movement.
In Villa Clara, he acknowledged progress in preparing union leaders and in efforts to strengthen ties with the grassroots, which he considered essential for effectively representing workers. He also praised the development of the consultation process for the draft Labor Code, describing it as a democratic and participatory exercise, in which labor collectives must summarize their proposals before the end of November.
Another key focus was boosting productive tasks, especially in preparing for the sugar harvest and the agricultural campaign, in response to the damage suffered in the eastern part of the country. In this regard, he called for mobilizing labor sectors through emulative movements that contribute to food production.
Finally, he highlighted the call for donations to support those affected by the recent hurricane and recognized the efforts of the CTC in the municipalities to ensure that aid reaches those in urgent need.
