To Ensure the Draft Labor Code Reaches Everyone

The National Union of Commerce, Gastronomy, and Services, together with the Ministry of Domestic Trade, have issued joint guidelines for the upcoming consultation process with workers regarding the Draft Labor Code.

Norma Pérez Olivera, a member of the union’s secretariat, emphasized that the goal is to guarantee organized participation with prior preparation. Both state and non-state sector workers are preparing for the consultation, scheduled to take place in September, October, and November.

The process will include a focused approach for both sectors to ensure that all workers have the opportunity to engage with the draft legislation.

Yulián León Rondón, general secretary of the union, noted that a significant number of workers are spread across various commercial areas, and this has been considered in the timeline for the planned assemblies.

He added that the National Union and the Ministry have outlined specific measures to ensure the planned process is properly supported and monitored.

Across all levels, the consultation on the Draft Labor Code is currently the most important political process, aiming to strengthen worker representation and improve labor legislation in Cuba
