The commemoration took place at the airfield, where the José María Pérez Capote Award was presented to managers and workers, including men and women who have worked in the sector for 20 years or more.

The Civil Aviation Collective was also recognized for its work in an activity in which the Party and the Provincial Government awarded diplomas for the excellent performance of this basic business unit, which also manages the Vilo Acuña Airport on the Isle of Youth.

Particularly moving was the gratitude of the 8th district of Carbonera, which was well represented by the airport.

«Dedication, prestige and a sense of responsibility characterize those who are always alert and vigilant to ensure that the airport excels in results and efficiency,» said Osmar Ramirez, Secretary General of the Provincial Committee of the Central Workers’ Union of Cuba (CTC).

When asked about the relevance of this group, he considered that «we are in the presence of a magnificent example of a socialist state enterprise, both for its results and its social projection».

Ramírez emphasized the importance of the Vanguardia Nacional Center, which in 35 years has efficiently served some 54 million passengers, including more than 25 million international visitors.

He explained how managers and employees are reference points in the application of alternatives to strengthen this grassroots business unit, including the production of food, the construction of a children’s house, support for hospitals, children from homes without family shelter and other actions that show their good soul.

«Another important aspect is the creation of a contingent of 15 workers to support the investment in the Jovellanos II Photovoltaic Solar Park, the commitment to renewable energy that the airport will clearly demonstrate when the panels are installed there, giving it energy sovereignty,» added the CTC General Secretary.

Ramirez also congratulated José Antonio García Manso, general director of the airport, for being selected among the outstanding cadres of civil aviation in Cuba.

Considered the second most important terminal in the country, Juan Gualberto Gómez receives more than 70 percent of the visitors who stay in Varadero, Cuba’s main beach resort, now connected to the rest of the world by airlines from different latitudes.

At the airport, there is a constant interest in making the customs and immigration procedures as agile as possible, something for which visitors are very grateful after long hours of flying, without compromising other actions for the safety of the ships and the progressive improvement of passenger service.
