An intense debate on the distortions that must be rooted out in the trade union movement was held at the Provincial Plenary of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC) in the eastern province of Holguin.

The meeting, which was attended by Ismael Drullet Pérez, member of the CTC National Secretariat, emphasized the need to influence various key aspects to strengthen and improve union work in the territory, such as the policy of cadres, the affiliation of new economic players, members’ assemblies and the distribution of profits.

Drullet Pérez stressed the importance of union leaders coming from the grassroots of the sector itself to ensure effective and committed management and urged the inclusion of values and humanism in every task of the labor movement.

The issue of the affiliation of the new economic players was the subject of much debate. María Dolores Domínguez, general secretary of the Provincial Union of Industries, said that it deserves a systematic and organized work because in many cases the MSMEs have irregularities that hinder their unionization.

The trade union leader also highlighted the realities of the current situation of the labor force, especially in industrial centers, and addressed aspects concerning the fluctuation of the labor force.

In order to root out the distortions discussed and put the country’s economy back on track, the CTC in Holguin has set 47 actions that require the participation of the different unions at the grassroots level.

In addressing the results of the 2024 Economy and Budget Plan Analysis Process, Drullet emphasized that what was agreed upon in the collective consensuses must be followed up responsibly to ensure compliance throughout the year.

To this end, he said, the assembly of members must be given its rightful place as a framework for workers to take the pulse of production and the provision of services.

Today throughout Cuba the organic process of the 22nd Congress of the CTC, the preparations for the elections at the base and productive mobilizations on weekends are being carried out with the objective of contributing to the supply of products for the feeding of the people.
