Santiago de Cuba’s Workplaces Adopt Measures to Minimize Electricity Generation Capacity Deficit

In the context of the current economic situation in the country, marked by a deficit in the capacity of electric power generation in the workplaces of the province of Santiago de Cuba, measures are taken to minimize the impact that this represents.

Although the supply of electricity is an issue that cuts across almost all production and service processes, knowing the cycle of blackouts programmed by the Electric Company allows the managements to adjust processes.

One example is the banking system in the province of Santiago de Cuba, which has been publicized in several ways for the knowledge of customers, with extended opening hours in order to serve as many people as possible in its various branches in the nine municipalities of the province.

In the retail units, particularly food stores, the reception and sale of basic food basket products is carried out when the distribution takes place without taking into account the traditional sales regime, and without regard to the days of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Within other groups, teleworking and telecommuting are promoted, taking into account not only the electro-energetic issue but also the lack of public transportation that hinders people’s mobility.

In this last order, strategies have also been established with the so-called solidarity transportation, which consists of having cars assigned to institutions pick up personnel at bus stops to help alleviate the tensions generated by the long waiting time of the very scarce fleet of public buses.

Along with these and other measures in the workplaces, the workers’ guard system and the protection of the means of production are also strengthened.
