In this tour we invite you to pay attention to the third paragraph on which we will make brief comments in each of its parts, with the intention of encouraging debate in the grassroots organizations of the workers’ movement:
The fruits of that transforming effort have been notably impacted by the intensified economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government, which, among other damages, has caused a considerable loss of the country’s foreign currency income. Without failing to recognize our inefficiencies and mistakes, this is undoubtedly the essential cause of the current macroeconomic imbalances, of the non-existence of wholesale markets for the resupply of raw materials and inputs; and of the partial dollarization of the economy.
In these debates, data on the international situation and everything that contextualizes the scenario in which the country is developing are useful, but we must be careful not to get trapped in the important area that places us in the historical moment, its specific situation and how it influences or determines Cuba.
Although critical analysis must prevail, neither should we spend more time than necessary referring to the projects implemented with advances and setbacks in the «transforming effort», nor should we get bogged down in remarks that should be resolved by others, although they can be said.
It is necessary to avoid getting entangled in pointing out how the blockade hinders efforts, but it is also necessary to avoid the harmful tendency of not looking at and analyzing the manner and effects of this economic war in order to then seek in time the ways to dodge its blows.
We can and must denounce the criminal genocidal blockade whose partial or total lifting depends on the United States, but the trade union movement, its members and their families have the legitimate right to analyze each of the effects of this economic war and the way to confront it with indigenous resources.
Precisely what each group and workplace can do to avoid these aggressions is a central point in the debates, in which we must recognize the inefficiencies and mistakes, in order to use the experiences and optimize the actions.
The discussion can critically analyze and point out the inefficiencies and errors of others, but not dwell on them, and instead continue the self-examination of one’s own issues and those that can be corrected in the workplace.
In summary: This third paragraph of the document can be enhanced in discussions with related elements of the trade union section to overcome the blockade imposed by the U.S. government, but also our own, which we also encounter.
