Diaz-Canel: Cuba copes with Covid-19 amid cruel blockade

President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday denounced the blockade and financial persecution of the United States against Cuba amid the fight against Covid-19.
At his regular meeting with national and regional authorities to review the development of the new coronavirus in the country, the president called to intensify the testing and increase the care of patients.

‘The country’s financial problems get worse, the problems due to hard currency availability get worse and we are coping with this situation with huge limitations imposed by the blockade, the head of State noted.

Cuba is fighting SARS-CoV-2, one of the biggest challenges that humankind has faced over the past decade, amid the harassment, financial persecution and smear campaigns that have not stopped by Yankee imperialism, Diaz-Canel stressed.

At the meeting, authorities reviewed the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country, a trend that must remain, due to the rise in the number of tests performed on suspicious cases.

The president regretted the death of the first Cuban patient, who arrived in the country from Spain and had history of diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and chronic lung disease.

‘We must closely follow the capacities for isolation and follow-up,’ added the president, who noted the efficacy in the early detection of the patients’ contacts to isolate them.

In that regard, Diaz-Canel insisted on taking advantage of the weekend for isolation, thus cutting off the transmission of the disease in the epidemic phase, which was confirmed by authorities from the Ministry of Public Health on Friday. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
