Russian FM Stresses Friendship between Russia and Cuba

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, highlighted on Wednesday the friendship between his country and Cuba, at the reopening of the Statue of the Republic, in the presence of the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Raul Castro.
Cuba is a strategic partner for Russia and relations between the two nations have passed the test of time, said Lavrov at the ceremony held at the Capitol in Havana, which was also attended by the head of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Mamadou Tangara.
He stressed that the successful restoration of the Statue of the Republic, carried out by a team of Russian specialists, shows support and joint effort.

The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his pride in visiting the Capitol, which he described as a symbolic building for Cuba.

He stressed, in this sense, that the building shelters the tomb of the unknown Mambi soldier, who represents the foundation of the efforts to create a free and sovereign nation, and those who fell in the first independence struggles.

He also referred to the Capitol as the institutional headquarters of the National Assembly of People’s Power, from which he pondered his work in fostering the economic and social development of the island.

After the event, in which officials from the Cuban government and the Russian delegation that accompanies Lavrov on his visit to Cuba also participated, Raul Castro talked with the team of Russian specialists. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
