UNESCO Opens Exhibition Dedicated to Havana

The celebrations at UNESCO headquarters in Paris for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Havana began on Thursday with the opening of a photographic exhibition that helps visitors to discover »a real and wonderful city.»
Dulce Buergo, ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), said this remarks during the opening of the exhibition by photographer Julio Larramendi.

According to the diplomat, the exhibition proposes a tribute to Havana and its inhabitants, and show conservation and restoration work done in the historical center of Old Havana, how the city has grown, many of its emblematic traits, the life of its inhabitants, their customs and traditions.

This exhibit celebrates ‘that real and wonderful, heroic and courageous city, symbol of resistance of the Cuban people who have been working tirelessly for 60 years for the development of the country and proudly defend their independence and sovereignty,’ she said.

Buergo made a special recognition to Havana Historian Eusebio Leal, whose ‘perseverance, sensitivity, will and commitment without limits have been the soul of the restoration and conservation project of Havana and its heritage.’

About 50 images make up the exhibition opened at UNESCO headquarters, in the presence of authorities of the organization and representatives of many countries. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
