Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel visited the September 11 Memorial on Saturday and stressed that the best tribute to the victims of that attack is to fight terrorism and its causes.

After touring the facility, located in the place where the attack on the Twin Towers occurred in New York, Diaz-Canel said that it is a very overwhelming place, full of symbolism.

The presence of a Cuban delegation in this site means a tribute to the victims, and also Cuba’s expression of rejection of terrorism as a practice and its causes, he told Cuban media.

We talked about this issue at the United Nations a few days ago, the domination and expansionist desire of capitalism that creates so much grudge and hatred, the only things that can explain things as terrible as the 9/11 attack in New York, he said.

Cuba is against capitalist domination, imperialist domination and the way some people act, this is the tribute and reflection we do when visiting a place like this, he stated.

It hurts that many lives were lost due to terrorism, said the Cuban statesman, who toured the site where the Twin Towers once stood.

Inside the September 11 Museum, he listened to the explanations and observed the remains of the destroyed buildings, one of the fire trucks used in the rescue, and visited the place where the only tree that survived the catastrophe is preserved.

Before arriving at the memorial, Diaz-Canel visited Battery Park, in the southern tip of New York, where he was told about the characteristics of that geographical area, the oldest one in the Big Appel, and how the city began to grow. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
