Cuban Province to Host Scientific Meeting on Breastfeeding

The Cuban central province of Sancti Spíritus will be hosting a national Scientific Meeting on occasion of the World Breastfeeding Week that takes place in the country from August 1 to 7.
Mario Enrique Berea, head of the provincial section of the Maternal and Child Care Program, told Prensa Latina that due to its positive results, the territory has hosted this event on several occasions.

The motto of the week is ‘Breastfeeding: Foundation for Life’ and the province has a Human Milk Bank since 2016, one of the issues addressed by this meeting, he said.

He added that tomorrow the participants will arrive in this city, while on the 3rd and 4th the National Workshop will be held with the presentation of scientific works from all over the country -15 provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.

In particular Sancti Spiritus, whose head is about 350 kilometers east of Havana, will present about 10.

According to the program, the number of attendees to the forum amounts to 50 and includes conferences, free topics and discussion panels.

On the 3rd, several conferences are scheduled, including the ones titled ‘Breastfeeding in the first 1000 days’ and ‘Breastfeeding: 100 reasons for its promotion and fomentation.’

This national event aims to promote and deepen the importance of breastfeeding the baby in the first six months of life as a basis to ensure infants’ growth, development and survival.

According to specialists, breast milk is the safest food to prevent diabetes, diarrhea, pneumonia, meningitis, allergies and malnutrition. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
