The Singing Academy Mariana de Gonitch announced in Havana a tribute concert to the founder of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), Vilma Espin, to celebrate the 88th anniversary of her birth.
Vilma is always the name of the cantata scheduled to take place on April 7, the day of the birth of the outstanding revolutionary fighter whose work in defense of women’s rights was essential to recognize them through political and state actions.

She had in her heart a piece for every Cuban, assured in an exchange with the press the director of the National Academy of Mariana de Gonitch, Hugo Oslé.

The Heroine of the Republic of Cuba died in this capital on June 18, 2007, after having been an important leader and in the youngest youth a fighter who several times risked her life in dissimilar battlefields to defend a Revolution in the island in the mid-twentieth century.

In honor of Espín, a work composed of three tenths will be premiered, under the title Debora, the santiaguera (Deborah, from Santiago de Cuba), because this was the name of the guerrilla struggle before the Triumph of the Revolution, in 1959.

An essential song in a tribute to this Cuban, according to Oslé, is El mambí, with verses by Sergio Lavilla, played by Luis Casas Romero, since it was one of the favorite themes of the revolutionary leader.

With this concert at the Museum of the Revolution, the Academy of Singing that bears the name of an eminent soprano and Russian pedagogue settled in Cuba will commemorate 10 years of foundation.
