JetBlue has opened two commercial offices in Cuba, after one year of having become the first U.S. airline to fly regularly to this Caribbean country in more than 50 years.
Both offices are in Havana, one at the Jose Marti International Airport and the other one in the downtown area of La Rampa, in El Vedado neighborhood.

JetBlue is currently positioned ‘to offer low rates and its award-winning service’ to a larger number of travelers in the Cuban capital, the company’s executive director, Robin Hayes, said during the opening ceremony.

In one year, the airline has carried more than 390,000 passengers between the two countries, operating approximately 2,000 flights, the company said.

According to Ibrahim Ferradaz, representative of the Cuban Aviation Corporation, the opening of the two offices demonstrates ‘the interest and feasibility’ of JetBlue operations in Cuba.

In economic terms, it is also positive for the United States, as it generates employment and ensures a stable market, said the official, who lamented the continuation of ‘severe restrictions’ by the policy of economic, financial and commercial blockade that the U.S. government has imposed on Cuba.

Despite the blockade’s restrictions, Cuba has managed to establish an airport infrastructure to receive foreign visitors in a safe environment, he said.

At present, about six U.S. airlines (JetBlue Airways, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines) are flying regularly to several Cuban destinations, although due to Washington’s bans, U.S. citizens cannot travel to Cuba as tourists.
