Border Brigade First Lieutenant Yaisis Isaac del Río, who works with the Young Communist League within the Revolutionary Armed Forces, was elected as the Eastern Army’s direct delegate to the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students to be held in the Russian city of Sochi, October 15-21.

The young native of Santiago de Cuba, 29 years of age, established now in Guantánamo, received the votes of 912 members of her unit.

«It is an honor for me and a well-deserved recognition of the work done by youth in the Border Brigade, who have the responsibility of guarding the perimeter of the illegal naval base that the government of the United States has maintained within our territory, for more than half a century, against the will of Cubans,» she said.

The young officer, also a university graduate in Social Sciences, was recognized in a ceremony during which Ronal Hidalgo Rivera, second secretary of the UJC National Committee, read a statement supporting the Revolutionary Government’s response to changes announced by the President of the United States in its policy toward Cuba, June 16.

The event held in the Brigade’s headquarters, a few meters from the yankee enclave, was also attended by Oreste Hernández Martínez, member of the Party’s provincial Political Bureau, in addition to other UJC and Revolutionary Armed Forces officers. (Taken from en.granma.cu)
