Cuba Ratifies Its Commitment to the Man and the Biosphere Programme

Cuba’s ambassador to UNESCO, Dulce Buergo, ratified her country’s commitment to the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB), speaking at the 29th meeting of the International Coordination Council of that project.

At the meeting that continues today, the diplomatic representative highlighted the intense action of the MAB National Committee, in the coordination of the six reserves of the Biosphere of Cuba.

She also commented on the numerous initiatives undertaken in the last period to strengthen the work of protecting the reserves and their active participation in the different activities summoned by the Ibero-American MAB Network.

The ambassador made particular reference to the upcoming 11th Convention on Environment and Development, scheduled in Havana in July, during which the 10th International Congress of Protected Areas will also be held, in coordination with the MAB Committee.

According to Buergo, ‘the main objective of the event is to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences in relation to the management and planning of national systems of protected areas, their natural and historical-cultural resources, linked to social, economic, and financial sustainability.’

The 29th meeting of the MAB International Coordination Council began Monday at the Paris headquarters of UNESCO and will run until tomorrow with an extensive program of activities. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
