Challenges, Prospects of Sustainable Trade Under Discussion in Cuba

The 1st Convention of Commerce Cuba 2017 kicked off yesterday at Havana Convention Center with the theme »Challenges and Prospects of Sustainable Trade.»
The event, which will last until May 19, is the perfect occasion for researchers, executives and technical staff to discuss and exchange experiences on the role of gastronomy and services in the country’s economy, said Odalys Escandell, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade.

More than 500 delegates, lecturers and exhibitors are attending the gathering, and about a dozen countries confirmed their participation including Spain, Bolivia, Peru, Mexico, Panama and Viet Nam, she said.

United Nations experts will be lecturing on consumer law, good business practices and the new challenges the digital economy implies.

One of the convention’s goal is to demonstrate, from the academy and science, the opportunities to develop domestic trade in order to improve the quality of services, Escandell pointed out.

The event’s program includes three symposiums: one on logistics, another on safety, quality, environment and consumer protection, and a third dedicated to cosmetology.

During the four-day event experiences on the implementation of the new models of non-state management, as well as the function of the wholesale market for cooperatives and self-employed workers will be discussed.
