Cuban city Santa Clara readies its main square for tribute to Fidel Castro

plaza-che-guevaraUnder a fine drizzle workers from the central Cuban city of Santa Clara are currently working to make the Ernesto Guevara Revolution Square ready to receive tonight the Caravan of Freedom, that carries the ashes of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro.

Activists, workers from the electricity company and culture ministers give the last touches to the place where a vigil will take place from dusk till dawn, before the Caravan continues its journey to eastern Cuba.

Speaking to ACN, Eliot Porta, artistic adviser to the Cultural Department in Villa Clara, said that they divided the evening in three acts that will be attended by students of the artistic education system, also promoted by Fidel, and renowned figures of the territory as Vionayka Martínez.

The guitars orchestra, the Awo Aché folk ensemble, members of the Trovuntivitis, the Provincial Choir and the projection of audiovisuals that recall the Commander’s passage through the central territory are some of the proposals, he added.

Scheduled to start just at midnight this Wednesday, the cultural gala will be followed by the vigil of a group of young people who with portraits of different stages of Fidel’s life that will remain in the square until morning. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
