First Cuban Vice President Meets IAEA Director General

diazcanel-oieaCuba’s First Vice President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, has received the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, the national press reported today.

The meeting, held yesterday afternoon, reviewed the relationship between that entity and the Caribbean island, as well as the development of cooperation projects linking both parties on human health, agricultural protection and environment, among others, according to a report in Granma newspaper.

The meeting also verified the implementation of those plans and future opportunities for strengthening.

According to information published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amano was invited by the head of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba, Elba Rosa Perez.

Cuba and the international entity have maintained close cooperation relations on the application of nuclear technology in vital areas such as human health, agriculture, food, hydrology and conservation of the environment, according to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The IAEA has recognized on several occasions the preparation of the island’s experts and their contribution to strengthening cooperation activities as the main source of promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
