Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Meets Ethiopian Foreign Minister

The vice president of the Council of State of Cuba, Salvador Valdes, met with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who is on an official visit to Cuba, it was reported here Saturday.

According to Granma newspaper, the meeting allowed both officials to express their satisfaction with the fruitful state of the bilateral relations.

Valdes and Adhanom Ghebreyesus exchanged common viewpoints about the situation in Cuba and Ethiopia, as well as about regional and international events, the newspaper added.

The visitor was accompanied by Ethiopian Ambassador to Cuba Bogale Tolessa, the assistant head of Ethiopia’s Cabinet of Ministers, Dawano Kedir Haji; the general director and affairs coordinator at the United Nations Security Council, Tsegab Kebebew, and other members of the delegation.

Also present at the meeting were Gerardo Peñalver, the general director of Bilateral Affairs; and Angel Villa, his peer at the Sub-Saharan Africa department at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, and other officials from that ministry.

Adhanom Ghebreyesus arrived in Havana on Friday, Jun 10, to meet with his peer, Bruno Rodriguez.

During the meeting, the visitor expressed gratitude and pride for the fraternal nature of the relations that unite Cuba and Africa, and especially with his country, whose ties are written with the blood of Cubans, poured during the wars for the liberation in the African continent.

He also was grateful for the continued cooperation by Cuban medical personnel during the battle against Ebola in several West African nations, and Cuba’s cooperation with his country in such fields as public health, education, science and technology, and the sugar industry.

During his first day in Havana, the Ethiopian diplomat paid tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti.

His agenda also includes meetings with other Cuban authorities and a visit to the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute in Havana. (Taken from Prensa Latina News Agency)
