Union Above All

Cuba became a complete parade on May Day: the International Workers’ Day from one side to another of this archipelago where women, men, youngsters, children and elderly people flooded the squares with real patriotic devotion with a sense of union and commitment with the Cuban Revolution.

People did not care about the rain in Havana: the Revolution Square was, as it has been many times, a witness of a daybreak full of voices and songs, of compact blocks which represented all sectors.

And in the great human wave our Cuban Five Heroes antiterrorist fighters freed and in their homeland: Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, after many years could again march together with their people and relatives. The happiness to have them back home was spread all over Cuba in the rest of the squares. There was also a demonstration of the irrefutable support to our brother country Venezuela.

Hand to hand to the Cuban people were friends of Cuba from other countries who raised their voices and chanted slogans in support to the Cuban Revolution.

For many reasons, this May Day was great for the nation. It was evident that nothing will stop the Cuban workers, they paraded under the heavy rain, thunders and flashes of lightening.

As part of the activities to celebrate the International Workers’ Day, there were awarded several workers and staffs with the medals of Heroes and Heroines of the Republic of Cuba, the Order Lazaro Peña I, II and III degrees, and the medal Jesus Menendez.

Miguel Diaz-Canel first vice president of the Council of State and Ministers and Jose Ramon Machado Ventura second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party presided over the ceremony.
