The governments of Cuba and the United States (U.S.) hold talks in Havana on January 22 and 23 at the Conventional Palace in Havana after the announcement on December 17 of both countries’ will to reestablish diplomatic relations.

The Cuban delegation is leaded by the general director of the US from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro.

On January 21 they will continue debating on the migration issue and on the American side, the delegation is leaded by the deputy secretary of the State’s Western Hemisphere Department, Edward Alex Lee and will evaluate the development of the migration agreements and the actions carried out by both countries to fight illegal migration and the traffic of emigrants, among other topics.

On January 22 they will hold talks on the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between both countries. On the Cuban part, Vidal Ferreiro will lead the delegation and on the American the Roberta Jacobson, secretary assistance of the State’s Western Hemisphere Department. Both will hold talks on several issues, among them, the opening of the embassies in both nations.

On Saturday, January 17 the survey taker, Pew Research announced that the 63 percent of the US citizens support Barack Obama’s decision to reestablish diplomatic relation with Cuba, and that the 66 percent are in favor to lift the blockade to Cuba.

The public opinion has spread after the US government has passed a group of measures that, although they abolish some of the restrictions to trade and travels of certain categories of US citizens to Cuba, they do not eliminate the economic, commercial and finance blockade in force since 1962.
