Shared Stage

Text and photos by Yuris Norido

The gala for the friendship between Cuba and China was at Avellaneda National Theater and ballet dancers from both countries shared stage.

It was really a great event with the Cuban prima ballerina Viengsay Valdes and the Chinese first ballet dancer Ma Xiaowdong in Quixote (picture 1); Zhang Yao and Qiu Yunting in Sacrifice (picture 2); Amaya Rodriguez and Victor Estevez in The Corsair (picture 3); the first ballet dancers Zhang Jian and Dani Hernandez in Giselle (pictures 4); Wang Ye and Sun Ruichen in Emerald (pictures 5 and 6) and Anette Delgado with Camilo Ramos in Espartaco (picture 8). In picture 7 there is Alicia Alonso, director of the Cuban National Ballet and the director of the National Ballet of China who were both on the stage greeting the audience together with the ballet dancers.

We hope this is just the beginning of the collaboration between the two companies who gifted the audience with the performance of pieces from a repertoire of classics and the most contemporaneous works.
