All the time I have heard about Fernando Gonzalez Llort, one of the Cuban Five antiterrorist fighters who served in the United States (U.S.) and had been recently freed,  I have been moved for his great faithfulness, modesty to express such deep ideas and the conviction in his words.

He reminds me our National Hero Jose Marti when he talked about the marble and independence heroes; their examples in his poem, which although they are far away in time, still move and unite the Cuban people in its daily struggle against injustice and defamations that in the  networks about our revolutionary process.

In his address during the Public Hearing of Parliament organized by the Foreign Relations Commission of the National Assembly of the People’s Power, on Monday, May 5, 2014, Llort highlighted with each of his words, especially when he said:

“The Cuban Five are not exceptional people, we are five people who were in certain circumstances and we did what any of the 11 million Cubans in the same situation would do. Because if there is a Revolution today, despite all the aggressions suffering our country, it is because there is a people that has always supported the Revolution, and we have been trained with the same values. We are part of this people.”

He later said: “We believe that the behavior of the media and the US government with our case is not against us as individuals. They were trying to punish the Cuban Revolution with their sick thoughts, because we are an example and an alternative.”

Finally, the Hero noted it was an honor to participate in the hearing, but the privilege was for all who attended this event at the theater of the Minister of Informatics and Communication. We could experience in our own flesh and hear one of our Cuban Five Heroes.

“I am impressed with the addresses and I have learnt a lot,” Llort said. “I am really moved and strengthened with so many and updated information with the battle carried out by Cuba with the media and the new technologies.

“My role –he said- will be to transmit as much information as possible to my brothers who are still held in the US; for whom I am convinced, we will keep on fighting until we have them all back in another session like this with Gerardo, Ramon and Tony. I believe one day they will be here with us for sure.”

All workers from the media will never rest in spreading his words, because the Cuban Five are the new man Che Guevara dreamt of, and the indispensible people Bertolt Brecht mentioned.
