Commitment to Produce more Tobacco

The commitment of the tobacco workers to keep on applying science and technology increases quality and productivity to fulfil the production plans, Luis A. Perez, from the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC), Felipe Herrera from Alquizar said in the meeting held to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the foundation of its union and the 20th of the cooperative.

Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, president of the organizing Commission of the 20th Congress of the Federation of Cuban Workers (CTC) handed in the 70 anniversary stamp of the organization to the UBPC, Felipe Herrera for its high and steady economic and productive results, which permit the constant improvement of the way of life of its members. Armando Trujillo Gonzalez, Hero of the Cuban Republic who has been the only manager of the cooperative received it on behalf of all of them.

This was the first UBPC founded in the tobacco branch and in the last 16 years has ratified the National Vanguard condition, thanks to the constant increase of efficiency and profitability they have since 1997.

The secretary general of the Tobacco Union, Bernardo Oliva Gonzalez handed in the Distinction Carlos Baliño to a representation of tobacco workers that for 20 and 25 years had a continuous job in this branch, while 11 members of Felipe Herrera received the diploma of founders of the UBPC.

Nidia Garcia Berenguer, member of the National Secretariat of the Tobacco Union explained the origin of this organization a lot before the first machete charge, its contribution to the necessary war and its participation in strikes.

She mentioned the leaders that emerged from the tables of the tobacco workers like Enrique Roig San Marti­n, Carlos Baliño, Carlos Rodriguez Careaga and Lazaro Peña, who fought in defence of the workers and the conquests.

She highlighted the contribution of the members of the UBPC in half the tobacco leaves used as layer for Habano’s cigars for exportation and stressed the contribution to the national economy.

She also said the harvest 2013-2014 should be superior in performances combined with the new technology and the experience of those men and women of this branch, to fulfil with the guidelines of the 6th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party.
