Cuban Youth Led Torch March in Honor of Jose Marti

Children also paid homage to the Cuban national hero yesterday

The Cuban youth did the traditional torch march on the eve of January 28 to mark the 157th birth anniversary of national hero Jose Marti.

Minutes before midnight, the demonstrators departed from the stairs of the University of Havana to finish at the Fragua Martiana monument.

The torch march was first held in 1953 by university students to mark the centenary of the birth of Jose Marti.

This year, the demonstration was led by all 157 members of FEU’s national council, who had a two-day meeting dedicated to Jose Marti.

Children paid homage to the Cuban national hero yesterday as well with a national camping day, excursions and visits to museums and other sites related to the life and work of Jose Marti and the history of the Revolution.
