Cuba Claims Right to 2010 CentAm&Carib Games
Cuba is demanding visas for its whole delegation, without exception
Cuba is demanding its right to participate in the Central American and Caribbean Mayaguez-2010 Games, Cuban Olympic Committee (COC) Chairman Jose Ramon Fernandez told on Wednesday.
The COC chairman said Cuba is demanding visas for its whole delegation, without exception, landing permit in an appropriate airport in the Puerto Rican territory and the certainty that the aircrafts used will not be seized.
We are also demanding the guarantee that the necessary implements and equipment can be brought into Puerto Rico, similar conditions of the accommodations, internal transportation and other facilities and that the media's and the supporting group can access all facilities.
Fernandez also stressed the establishment of security and peace conditions to the Cuban delegation, and recalled that the Puerto Rican authorities and fans have supported his country's participation in the regional event.
The official highlighted that Cuba would not tolerate, under any circumstances, outrages or personal friskings in Puerto Rican territory, and recalled negative experiences in other events held in that country, as the central American and Caribbean San Juan-1966 and Ponce-1993 Games, and the 2006 World Baseball Classic.
He reiterated his country's interest and willingness to participate in the regional competitions, although the lack of time and responses are already conspiring against that intention.
