Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel called to work constantly on the preservation and decoration of Havana, which will celebrate its 500th anniversary on November 16, local media reported on Saturday.
According to Diaz-Canel, the work style has to continue and the rescue of other municipalities, beyond Havana Vieja (Old Havana), has to start, primarily in Centro Habana.

Speaking at a meeting of the Havana Support Governmental Group, the president acknowledged the holding of the Carnival, which involved all municipalities in the Cuban capital, with a diversity of options and citizens’ calm.

At the meeting, the president of the Havana Government, Reinaldo Garcia, reported on some matters that have impacted the capital over the past few months, including the reopening of the Coppelia ice cream parlor, the National News Agency reported.

Regarding the collection of solid wastes, Garcia noted that 28 new garbage trucks are expected to arrive in the country in the next few days to complete the fleet of 100 such vehicles donated by Japan, and they will have an impact on the cleaning of Havana.

The official explained that of 8,319 houses damaged by the tornado, 8,011 have been restored, and of 1,086 total collapsed buildings, 786 have been solved.

A system has been designed by the Ministry of Construction to daily oversee the situation in the buildings that are being turned into houses for families affected by the tornado, so that any difficulty can be addressed immediately, Garcia added.

The meeting also analyzed the work done in emblematic sites of the Cuban capital, such as Chinatown and the San Rafael boulevard, which have been remodeled for the enjoyment of Havana residents and visitors. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
