Cargando...A high-tech paint factory located in the Mariel Special Development Zone, with 100 percent foreign capital, will begin operations in January 2019.
Déborah Rivas, director general of Foreign Investment at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (Mincex), said on her Twitter account that Devox Caribe S.A., a Mexican company, will begin production focused on water-based acrylic paints.
In her tweet the official echoes the words of company president Jaime Murow, who said that the business proposal of @ZEDMarielCuba is attractive and decided to produce more than import. We were one of the first to arrive and today we are one of the first to make our product,» he said.
A report published this Friday in Granma newspaper indicates that the factory is capable of producing in an eight-hour shift, between 60,000 and 70,000 liters of paint, at first it will concentrate on the domestic market and later aspires to open up to the Caribbean market.
It is a state-of-the-art plant with fiber optics for voice and data communication. It can operate from anywhere in the world because it is integrated to what is known today as the Internet of things, the president of Devox Caribe S.A. explained to the newspaper.
The company’s website informs that it is a subsidiary of the Mexican company General Paint, whose industrial plant in Cuba will replace current imports of these products and will generate part of its energy demand from the installation of solar panels on the roof of the installation.
