The parliamentary commission in charge of drafting the new Cuban Constitution is putting the finishing touches on the document on the basis of the proposals made at popular consultations, the vice president of the National Assembly, Ana Maria Mari Machado, said on Friday.
According to Mari Machado, the group of 33 lawmakers, headed by the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raul Castro, has worked over the past few days on correcting the style of the document to tune it up and submit it to the National Assembly in December.

The legislator explained that the proposals gathered during popular consultations throughout the country from August 13 to November 15, which also included debates abroad, have enriched the draft Constitution, which will be submitted to a referendum, after its approval by Parliament.

In an unprecedented process, Cubans who reside or are in a mission abroad had the opportunity to comment on the content of the document, which proposes changes in the structure of the State, expands individual rights, recognizes the market and private property and seeks to strengthen the people’s power from the grassroots.

The enriched text will be discussed at several sessions of the People’s Power National Assembly to analyze the thousands of proposals for modifications, additions, eliminations and doubts, Mari Machado stressed in statements to Cuban television.

After listening to the assessments and suggestions by the groups in charge of processing and analyzing the approaches, the commission made a detailed analysis.

In addition, it agreed to propose to the National Assembly the modifications to be made to the draft Constitution. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
