Dr. Rosalba Roque Gonzalez, deputy director of Cuba’s National Center for Minimum Access Surgery, arrived in Vienna to attend the 16th World Congress of the International Society for Esophageal Diseases.
The event is hosted by the University of Vienna and the invitation to the specialist constitutes an international recognition of the development of Cuban medical services and the high level of training of its doctors and other medical professionals, states a note from the Cuban embassy in Austria.

It stresses that despite extremely limited resources and the impact of economic, financial and trade sanctions as a result of the U.S. blockade, Cuba has managed to universalize access to high quality medical services and maintain a health system with comparable indicators to developed countries.

Cuba is also known for promoting effective South-South cooperation, putting its health system at the service of the peoples of the Third World.

The generosity of Cuba, its solidarity and international cooperation in the field of health have been repeatedly highlighted by specialized international agencies such as the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). (Taken from Prensa Latina)
