UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres arrived in Havana, where he will hold a dialogue with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, and will participate in the inaugural session of the 37th session of ECLAC.
At Jose Marti International Airport, Guterres was received by the host vice chancellor, Abelardo Moreno.

In addition to the meeting with Diaz-Canel, scheduled for this afternoon, and the inauguration of the forum of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Secretary General will pay tribute to the Cuban national hero, Jose Marti, at the memorial erected to the pro-independence hero at the Revolution Square.

The agenda disclosed for his visit also includes a tour around the Historic Center of Havana, declared by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.

This is Guterres’ first visit to Cuba since he took office in January 2017, replacing Ban Ki-moon, who was also in the largest of the Antilles as Secretary General of the organization that brings together 193 countries.
