Two of the main units of Camilo Cienfuegos oil refinery, which next December 21 will mark 10 years of being reactivated, are undergoing a comprehensive maintenance process.

Located at about 10 kilometers from Cienfuegos city, that industry was inaugurated in 2007 by Venezuela´s President Hugo Chavez and Cuban Army General Raul Castro.

Hemenegildo Montalvo, general manager of the entity, told ACN that they repaired the catalytic reforming plant with equipment purchased in Europe, a work that must be completed by January 10, 2018, and its start-up is scheduled for February 15.

The diesel hydro-finance unit, which has been operating for five years, is also receiving improvements, Montalvo noted.

Montalvo added that, in addition to maintenance, they undertake an investment process which includes better treatment of boiler water, further reduce the sulfur levels in the crude oil and improving environmental protection.

The fuel processor was reactivated in cooperation with Venezuela´s PDVSA Company, which recently concluded its joint ownership of the refinery, which now produces as a mercantile society, one hundred percent Cuban.

The Cuban manager highlighted the experiences left by Venezuelan personnel, especially in training, in good practices from industrial safety and environmental protection, as well as in minimizing accidents. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
